Issue 1’s Hell Yeah Magazine saw AC interview Alexi Freeman for our ‘Here & Now’ section….I just saw his latest collection and almost shit my pants it’s so rad!!!! So here’s AC’s interview and some images of his latest and greatest.

What are your greatest influences when designing a collection?

Art, music, nature, my friends, a piece of trash lying on the side of the road… Influences can strike at any moment!

 Who would you like to see rockin’ your clothes? 

I’m thrilled when I see anyone rocking my collection on the street, but if I had to pick some gals you’ve heard of I would say that Karen O (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs), Queen Michelle (Kingdom of Style) or Australian model Nicole Trunfio all have got some pretty good looks happening…

 What does style mean to you?

I think style is about having the imagination and confidence to dress in a way that suits you, without necessarily adhering to trends.

How do you see the Australian industry in comparison to the larger, more established industries such as Paris, Milan etc.?

I think on the whole Australia is a pretty conservative market, but there are a definitely a few people here trying to push the envelope which is always refreshing – you know who you are!

  Any words of wisdom for someone wanting a career designing clothes?

If you don’t like working more then 10 hours a day you will never survive in this industry as it’s a lot of hard work! But if you’re truly passionate, it won’t even seem like work half the time.

  What makes you go Hell Yeah!?

·        Finishing a collection!

·        Playing drums – that’s right, I’ve recently taken them up…

·        Knocking off early on Fridays (like 7pm instead of 10pm).
