Designed for the Aussie summer, backyard BBQs and all things in between, the GLOBE X VB SPECIAL PROJECT is a collection of six design pieces: a cruiserboard, a pool short, a boardshort and a mid-cut shoe – each piece was ground-up designed by Globe’s commissioned artists and design teams and features the latest GLOBE innovations.

Not one for doing things by half measures, the GLOBE designers took the research for this project very seriously, spending many hours sampling the beer to ensure they “knew” the brand inside and out. They crushed cans, broke glass, smashed ice, brought in sand, removed sand; they hauled slabs of VB to one end of the warehouse and empty slaps to the other. Look out for built-in bottle openers on the cruiserboard, shorts that are hand washed with stones, engineered sublimation prints and multi-textured panels on the shoes to capture the famous trademark VB green. This is not some cheesy, chook-raffle-like a merchandise deal, this is a design project to raise a stubby to.

 As Australia’s highest selling beer for the last 20 years, its fans are in the masses. Shit, I remember back in the 90s when local rappers used to always name drop VB in their freestyles and rock the merch- like this pic of BIAS B in the 90s…

I remember the good ol’ days when cash was limited and taste import beers were out of reach and we would buy a carton of throwbacks [mini-stubbies] for less than twenty bucks!

Hell Yeah will have a stall selling back issues of the mag at a special price plus some of our own vintage streetwear, sneakers and fly-girl earrings. Last year Tash and Chy had a stall and a ball in the sun- drinkin’ and smokin’, listening to beats, takin’ nice  flicks of the fly peeps and having a rowdy ol’ time! This year it’s at a new location- The Bleeding Heart Gallery in the heart of Brisbane city with a bar to get your drink on so come for the kicks and hang for the day. Hope to see yall there!

To celebrate, Laced are having a Star Wars launch party this coming Thursday including some theme based rad art for sale by local artist  Duncan Mattocks.

This battle art event hosts the cream of QLD’s street art scene, whipping up storms to become crowned this years second Wreckers Yard Champ.

On the night each battle will have its own theme.
Each theme is open to artistic interpretation. Contestants find out the theme 30 seconds before the clock starts.

Semi Final is 12 mins
Final Is 15mins

All pieces are either free hand or stencil, using ONLY black paint/ink/aerosol with either A BRUSH, MARKER, OR CAN
All paint is supplied by Ironlak. Ink is supplied by Dr. Ink.

All the pieces will be featured in Clouded Thoughts magazine. 

First prize is $1,000.00 and to do a wall at Red Bull HQ (QLD)

*In more exciting Ironlak related news- The boys are working on a new issue of Artillery Magazine to drop very soon. A few Hell Yeah staff have got a sneak peak and it’s looking at being the dopest Australian graffiti mag release ever!

It’s just a big hub of creativity and inspiration for the arts, graf, food, music, fashion and media sectors. I moved there was I was 19 for a year to further my media career and within 3 months scored a job as a veejay on a national music program. Bingo!

There are many fish but room for everyone in the big pond that is Melbourne. Just don’t complain about the cold weather- it’s obvious that [and the water] breeds style….

The only fake shit that’s good shit is bootleg high-end designer shit, especially the good ol’ double c’s. Whether it’s a pair of gigantic fake plastic neon Chanel logo earrings or a parody of a designer logo put on a street-wear t-shirt, my materialistic fantasy driven taste makes me think it’s dope when another underground street-wear brand does their take on the Chanel or LV logo or their own monogram design goodness.

Don’t get me wrong, if I had a disposable income and/or the ultimate sponsorship ala Lily Allen, I’d rock the real shit too… but no-one I know should be dropping this much money on materialistic goods unless they’re a fuckwit but all power to my lucky ladies who seem to  hit the vintage, thrift store goldmines on the regular- but that’s another blog post. Anyway I’d rather spend my real money on the underground fly as brands by good, creative people and friends like Grand Scheme, MOB, Princess of the Posse and Creep Street.

I’ve been thinking alot about this brand-whore silliness lately while shopping for my soon to be- baby son. All the cute stuff I see is for baby girls and I obviously can’t push my Hello Kitty addiction on a lil’ dude and that Wiggles/ Thomas the tank engine shit is lame, Bonds stuff is boring [enough with the stars and stripes already!] so of course I’m already moulding my lil’ [b]-boy’s style with Nike, Adidas, Polo, Timberland and Country Road. Damn! Those brands in baby sizes are as expensive as adult’s so lucky for me, with e-bay and specialized baby markets I’m copping alot of stuff second hand- at a quarter of the price as I do with my own brand-name wares.

Am I a bad mother for buying this shit? Hell no! As long as I get it at a bargain price! Which proves my point, in total hip hop style you don’t have to be cashed up to have style or mad flava.

Fly as fuck with wit, humour and an ‘I am somebody’ attitude. 

A plain shirt or scarf just doesn’t do it for me!

I was stoked to discover this week a range of witty, rad t-shirts by a label from the states Premium Label. Couldn’t find much info on the makers of the brand- which is probably a good thing when you’re fucking with the big boys! All I can say is I want them all!

He is known world-wide amongst Raiders fans for his whimsical commentary on all things Raiders. With more jerseys than Ice Cube, this old friend of Hell Yeah always makes us laugh at parties, on facebook and is reknown for saying the most un-appropriate things to people’s girlfriends while usually rockin’ a fruity patterned Nike parachute jacket. On a soppy note it was at an infamous O.T party at his mansion, where me and my boo first met.

Diandra is also an African American with albinism. It’s a hereditary condition that occurs in one of of every 17,000 births in which the skin, hair and eyes produce little or no melanin, resulting in a lack of pigmentation.

 In Tanzania people with albinism are being attacked, killed or mutilated by witch doctors who believe that their organs or potions made from them can bring luck or cure disease. 

In Zimbabwe people with albinism are reportedly being raped by those who believe that sexual intercourse with them can cure HIV/AIDS. 

Those atrocities and the persistent discrimination have galvanized people around the world with albinism to organize and become more active and vocal in combating the discrimination and negative stereotyping they face. 

Diandra Forrest knows all too well about that. She was teased, taunted and had her ethnic background questioned while growing up in the boogie down Bronx.

Thanks to Melissa Reed, her sixth-grade teacher who was also an African-American with albinism, the future model began to undergo a transformation from a shy, quiet child too afraid to speak up to an outgoing young woman unafraid to speak her mind and pursue her dreams.

She’s signed with the prestigious Ford Models in Paris after initially starting her career with Elite.
